One of our UL parents has coordinated with Robin Underwood of WISE (Wrangell Institute for Science and the Environment) for a special session of Changing Seasons for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade on Thursday, September 18th from 1:00-3:00pm. If it will work well for you to bring all of your children to one session, this is the one for you! Activities will be adjusted to match the interest and attention span of younger students. All activities will be held outdoors on or near the Glennallen Schools campus - watch for further details next week. There is no cost, parents should stay with their children for the program, and everyone should dress accordingly! School is not in session that day, so the Upstream Learning facilities will not be available. Please contact Tori Rego or the UL office if you plan to attend. Thank you!
All Copper River Valley homeschooled 2nd and 3rd grade students are invited to join Wrangell Institute for Science and Environment for our Changing Seasons program. Students attend four hands-on classes in an outdoor setting, learning about science and the world around us. Homeschool parents or guardians are asked to attend with their students, or team up with other families to provide transportation and chaperones. Homeschool students are invited to attend at any school, but you must call WISE or Upstream Learning to sign up by Sepember 17th. The program will begin at about 10am and finish at about 2:15pm, with an hour for lunch and recess. We will adjust the schedule for each school based on their lunch times.
Slana School: Monday, September 22nd
Glennallen Elementary: Tuesday, September 23rd

To all of our new families . . . welcome to the Upstream Learning community! We trust you will have a terrific year of homeschooling; we look forward to supporting and encouraging you! For those who don’t already know (and appreciate) our new program assistant, Mary Howarth-Hernandez, please read on . . .
Mary has lived in the Copper Valley for the past 19 years. She has worked for the Copper River School District in the past, helping students with reading using the Linda-mood Bell program and assessing students with the Dibels and Aimsweb programs. She recently comes from the Parents As Teachers program through RurAL Cap, where she worked in child development with families and children ages birth-5. She has one son, Michael James (MJ) who works for DOT out of Manley Hot Springs. She has 3 dogs who all love to walk regularly. She also loves to quilt and sew in her spare time. We are overjoyed to welcome Mary's enthusiasm, efficiency, energy and talent to Upstream Learning!
